DP's Jody Lee Lipes and Laura M. Gonçalves paired the Venice camera with Panavision G Series anamorphic lenses and shot in 2.39:1 aspect ratio to make it stylized and pushed beyond reality.

The lights could be running at only 25-percent output, which is all they needed shooting with the Venice at an exposure index of 6,400 ISO in the 2,500 ISO base mode.

Sony Alta Venice

Sony Alta Venice

The VENICE camera is Sony's first full-frame sensor high-end digital cinematography camera. It is unmatched in the Sony range for the wide array of recording formats it supports, and features Dual Base ISO 500/ISO 2500.

This Sony Venice is meant to provide you with just the amount of camera you need, so you don't have to invest in more than necessary. It features a full-frame CMOS sensor with 15+ stops of dynamic range, but in its basic configuration it windows the sensor to shoot Super 35. The camera comes with a removable PL Mount that supports the Cooke /i Technology lens metadata protocols.

Eight integrated and motorized ND filters range from clear to seven stops of ND in one-stop increments. The camera features a built-in assistant-side info screen, along with a smaller basic info display screen on the operator side of the camera.

LENSES

Panavision G-series

Panavision G-series

Introduced in 2007, Panavision G Series anamorphic lenses combine the compact convenience of the C Series with the optical innovations of the Primo Anamorphic series. G Series lenses are characterized by their high contrast, high resolution, balanced aberration control, excellent glare resistance, tightly controlled anamorphic squeeze ratio, low-maintenance cylindrical layout, and minimal breathing.

Panavision Primo Artiste

Panavision Primo Artiste

The Primo Artiste lenses are a series of T/1.8 prime lenses, making them one of the fastest optics available for large-format cinematography. The series incorporates modern features such as focus breathing control, even field illumination and optimized close focus performance. An added feature includes a true anamorphic glass attachment that retains the spherical nature of the base lens yet induces many of the artifacts associated with anamorphic photography such as directional flares and distorted bokeh. The Primo lenses work on all 35mm and full-frame format cameras with SP70 mount.

The Artiste series is an evolutionary step in design, becoming the second series to include a fully internalized motor. The essence is an innovative configuration that takes advantage of the aesthetic flexibility available within large-format digital sensors, with the look of vintage optics.

Panavision H-series

Panavision H-series

Evoking a classic portrait look, H Series primes offer rounded, soft roll-off between the foreground and background, producing a pleasing skin-tone quality and a layer of depth that gives portraits and scenes a three-dimensional quality. The true vintage glass offers slightly elevated blacks for softer contrast. The combined characteristics result in a sculptured image that transcends the sterility of digital sensors.

Smooth edge transitions allow subjects to be naturally placed within the depth of the image. Compatible with both Super 35 and large-format sensors.
