DP Federico Cantini used the Sony Venice paired with Panavision Panaspeeds: "These large-format lenses that were customized specifically for the movie — to replicate the Panavision Super Speed look of that era, but keep the bigger-than-life effect of the large format." he says. Cantini also toggled between two Panavision Primo zooms.

CAMERAS

Sony Alta Venice

Sony Alta Venice

The VENICE camera is Sony's first full-frame sensor high-end digital cinematography camera. It is unmatched in the Sony range for the wide array of recording formats it supports, and features Dual Base ISO 500/ISO 2500.

This Sony Venice is meant to provide you with just the amount of camera you need, so you don't have to invest in more than necessary. It features a full-frame CMOS sensor with 15+ stops of dynamic range, but in its basic configuration it windows the sensor to shoot Super 35. The camera comes with a removable PL Mount that supports the Cooke /i Technology lens metadata protocols.

Eight integrated and motorized ND filters range from clear to seven stops of ND in one-stop increments. The camera features a built-in assistant-side info screen, along with a smaller basic info display screen on the operator side of the camera.

LENSES

Panavision Primo

Panavision Primo

Panavision Primo V lenses have been specifically designed for use with 35mm-format digital cameras, delivering the classic Primo look for modern digital sensors.

Panavision Panaspeed

Panavision Panaspeed

The Panaspeed lens series is a high speed, large-format companion to the Primo-L series of optics. Sharing many of the same traits – such as excellent veiling glare resistance, a blend of technical aberration correction, and the introduction of artistic nuances in the form of select aberration inclusion – the Panaspeeds also incorporate improved features including no blue line, better close focus, anti-breathing control, faster aperture, and greater field illumination. At T/1.4, these lenses are the fastest optics available for large-format cinematography. Panaspeeds are compatible with film and digital 35mm and full-frame cameras equipped with SP70 mounts.

Venus Optics Laowa Probe

Venus Optics Laowa Probe

The world’s first consumer-grade probe lens. Focuses from 2:1 macro to infinity and with a compelling wide angle 'Bug Eye' perspective. The wide angle design means much greater depth of field at close distances than possible with conventional telephoto macro lens. The front barrel of the lens is waterproof and an LED ring light is mounted at the tip of the lens. It can cover both standard 35mm full frame & Super35 image sensors and is super lightweight to carry.

Canon K35

Canon K35

Canon K35s are the perfect combination of amazing performance and unique character. They are low contrast, have a gentle focus fall-off, and produce gorgeous pastel skin-tones. Our set is made up of some of the oldest K-35s produced, therefore they are quite warm, and flares are a beautiful mix of gold, amber and magenta. They cover Full Frame, they are high speed lenses, have excellent close-focus and their 15-blade iris means your bokeh is always a soft circular shape. They are also one of the best performing vintage super speed lenses when shot wide-open thanks in a large part to their aspherical designs. That design was a big reason Canon K-35s won an Academy Award in 1977 for innovation. For some modern references, K35s were used to lens HER, AMERICAN HUSTLE and THE HANDMAID'S TALE.
