'The Woman King'

Poster The Woman King

For the film's many night-exterior scenes, which nearly always featured characters’ dark skin tones, DP Polly Morgan consulted with Sasaki to modify a set of Panavision’s T Series anamorphic lenses to reduce the contrast in her images and preserve detail.
For most of the shoot Morgan paired these optics with the Arri Alexa Mini LF. But for location work where sequences such as the opening battle were shot she chose the Arri Rental Alexa 65. When shooting with the 65, Morgan paired the camera with customizedPanavision Panaspeeds, customized to match the T Series.

LENSES

Panavision Panaspeed

Panavision Panaspeed

The Panaspeed lens series is a high speed, large-format companion to the Primo-L series of optics. Sharing many of the same traits – such as excellent veiling glare resistance, a blend of technical aberration correction, and the introduction of artistic nuances in the form of select aberration inclusion – the Panaspeeds also incorporate improved features including no blue line, better close focus, anti-breathing control, faster aperture, and greater field illumination. At T/1.4, these lenses are the fastest optics available for large-format cinematography. Panaspeeds are compatible with film and digital 35mm and full-frame cameras equipped with SP70 mounts.
